SHARP Mission
The SHARP initiative, Sugar Hill Arts Revival Project funded through the California Arts Council, allows us to revitalize and re-imagine the Sugar Hill Arts District not only as a historic preservation site and landmark destination of African-American history, arts, activism, civic engagement, leadership, and strategic vision— but also as a site of community building and urban renewal. Our collective purpose is to honor the legacy of our ancestors while sparking a renaissance in urban Los Angeles— a rebirth or revival of art, architecture, literature, culture, style, and history.
By engaging in collaborative restorative projects with key stakeholders, entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and the community, we share our stories with the past as a present for our future.

#SummertimeChallenge Five Steps
Follow Five Simple Steps #SummertimeChallenge
The #SummertimeChallenge is a communal opportunity to honor the legacy of Black trailblazers, unsung heroes, and legendary creatives who stood up to injustice and created access and opportunity for others to follow in their footsteps. We want YOU to be a part of this celebration of music, culture, and hope for the morning that we all “rise up singing”! We want YOU to be a part of the #SummertimeChallenge! Follow the steps below to participate:
1. Listen to the jazz standard, “Summertime”.
2. Express your interpretation of “Summertime” and capture it on video!
3. Post your video on your social media platforms – use the hashtags #SummertimeChallenge and #SHARP, and tag @SugarHillArtsRevivalProject
4. Tag 10 of your friends/family in your post and challenge them to create and post their own interpretations.
5. Celebrate your creative contribution, and check our pages to see what activities are up next!
